In the aftermath of the Volcra attack in the Fold, Alina's life is forever changed when she is revealed to be the long-prophesied Sun Summoner. After Alina is whisked away to the Little Palace, Mal fights to be reunited with her. Kaz is determined to find a way through the Fold to take on Dessen's job, even though it puts him at odds with Inej. We learn more about General Kirigan, the power of the Grisha, and the Drüskelle (Grisha hunters). Alina struggles to settle into her new environment. Kaz has a run-in with a couple of old friends, and is moved to extremes to secure Inej's temporary freedom for the job at task.
