This is Hanukkah and I am here with Anthony and Mike, and we are discussing the Season 2 penultimate episode of The Wheel of Time. We're almost at the end guys. Now we used we can get ready to start prepping for Season 3. Yes, and and shout out to all the listeners who stayed with us through this. Yes, we. Appreciate you. We do, We really do. So let's get into this episode because I have questions. The episode starts out with a flashback from 20 years ago of Morena Sawan's relationship.

1:06 And, you know, it's so interesting because they're all young and they're carefree and they're talking about their future and how they're going to be together. The question that I have is this, in this particular clip, they don't seem to be hiding their relationship. So I'm assuming that at that time, you know, of course, because Sawan wasn't the ambulance seat, there was nothing for them to hide. So my question is not 20 years later, do people know that they were actually a couple back then or was this just a carefree like we're we're the only two people walking on this balcony so we can be a little bit more open?

1:51 I mean, for all intents and purposes for the show, the relationship is more than whether it is sort of portrayed in the book. In the books, I mean they're well known pillow friends, but there were a lot of pillow friends. OK. So it wasn't like it wasn't, it wasn't unknown that they were pillow friends. But what? Based on the time Robert Jordan was writing the books, the editors wouldn't necessarily let him explicitly say. That they were lovers. OK, 'cause I, I, I guess I'm just wondering, like not even thinking about the books, but in the show, I think that would explain a lot of people's dislike of Moraine as far as the Isodai sisters go, because they could think that, oh, OK, you know what, they used to have a relationship. And so she, she shows favoritism to Moraine. And if you think about like the conversations that they've, that we've heard in the first season where, you know, it's like, oh, Moraine spends too much time away from the tower. She doesn't have the I guess the restraints like some of the other isodisces just do and I was just wondering if that relationship with Swan kind of plays into that. No, I think, I think I would say that that's sort of not necessarily accurate because Moraine's issue, if it really is an issue, is with the Blues, you

3:24 know, with Swan is the Armorland. She doesn't have any control over what they do now. full-fledged eyes to die, who isn't a sitter can go and come and go as she pleases. Maureen spends a lot of time away, so they can't really be accused of, she can't really be accused of favoritism towards Maureen when the Blues, if they wanted to stay there, they could make her stay there. OK. You you. Does that make sense? Yes, and. So, but but they're not. Again, the reason why she doesn't become a sitter is so she has the freedom to do what their plan is, which is to go out and find the dragon.

4:04 Right. So that's what she's been doing. She's been out for years at a time, not being back at the tower. OK, this leads into my other question and I'm I can't remember what the Izodai's name is the the sitter of the blue Asha who is now a Damani. When she was at the tower in the first season and she was trying to get Moraine to stay. She was like I need you here at the tower because of some unrest, not a think about it, some unrest in the West, blah blah blah blah blah. And then Moraine found a way to like, not have to stay at the tower. Yeah, she gets exiled.

4:47 Yeah, if she was at the tower, would she have at that time become the sitter like I, I still don't understand. What I I think that's when she was, if I remember, because, you know, I don't go back and rewatch these things anymore. I think at the time she was yeah. I think she was telling her that she was going to have to be at the sitter. She was going to have to take her place or. Something OK, OK. All right, so, OK, that answers a couple of my questions, 'cause I'm like, OK, I'm still trying to figure out how this thing works, especially when it comes to the isodine in the tower, because there it's like there's so many components to it and it's just like, OK, I OK, I'm going to keep track here, keep track here. But it's just a whole bunch of stuff. But OK, going back to the scene, going back to the show, like I said, we see Sawant and Moraine, they're sitting there, they're being flirting with each other.

5:42 They're talking about their futures. They're talking about what they're going to do. We're not going to be here for long. We're going to serve our time and and and go home and and, you know, be fish wives together and just retire, which I was like, do I said I really retire in that sense. But I guess, yeah. Because because we see Baron and and her sister kind of retired, but I don't, I guess seeing Moraine in the way she has been in the last two seasons, I just can't imagine Moraine sitting down somewhere just not worrying about the world. It just seems an odd concept. But it's I mean, it's the same like with, you know, in our field, we work in education. We had, we know teachers who have been there for years. And when they say, oh, I'm retiring, it's like you. Well, we have to.

6:32 You have to remember, this has been 20 years ago. This this is before the proverbial shape is in the fan. Yeah, I know. And that's. That's why we used to talk about retiring and, you know, living our days together. Oh wait, no, we have something to do. Yeah, because then you go in to see, I'm assuming that sister was a seer. Yes. And she is the one who actually, I don't even want to say predict because it's literally happening in real time. Prophecy. It was a prophecy. But technically it was a prophecy. OK, but she starts having the vision of Rand's mother giving birth and she tells, she tells both women she was like the dragon is reborn, you know?

7:24 And this is like literally on the heels of the IO War ending, so. You think at this point Lehman, yeah, King Lehman was dead at this point cause like, oh, the war is over. Right, which literally right after that? Yeah, 'cause at first I was watching was like, they seem to be really, really happy when there's a war going on. Like literally right outside the window. Yeah, yeah. And then they're like, the war is over. And as soon as like she didn't even get the word over out of her mouth. Good. Before the sister starts having the vision of Ran being born and she tells them she was like, you must.

8:06 What did she say? You must. You must unite. You must find the dragon and prepare the world for war. And, and no, and prepare the world to follow him. That was what she said. And then she told them that they couldn't say anything to anybody. And they're both looking at each other like, welp, I guess the retirement's a bust. Yeah, shout the Hayley Mills of Parent Trap fame playing that role. Is that what it was? Yeah, that's her. Shut. It is At first I was looking, I was like, 'cause I saw who, who's playing. I was like, is that the girlfriend? Is that the woman from 1-2 years? I was like, no, that's Ally Mills. Like, oh.

8:47 Yeah, it's a lot. Lot of Ally Mills is around Hollywood, but yeah, I thought I was like, oh, that's that's actually pretty cool. It's good to have see you see someone from our childhood actually, you know, having a current role and something. Yeah, but yeah, so. And does she die after she has this, this vision or this? Yes. It looks like she does. So I'm just like, OK. It was such a powerful, overwhelming, you know, she was already old guitar and Marissa, she was already old. But it was such a powerful vision, man, she died. OK, because it's almost like she was, I don't know, like channeling Rand's mother spirit because she was reacting in the same way Rand's mother was reacting. And when she died and she kind of killed over, I was like, is she dead though?

9:37 Is she like really, really dead? And Swan and and Miranda just looking at each other like, and this starts the 20 year journey for them to find the Dragon Reborn. And so that look back at their relationship is very interesting because you see how kind of really in love they were. And even though we kind of, we got a glimpse of it in the first season, and if you remember when we first saw it, I, I wasn't feeling their relationship when we had that first episode of them together because I was like, there's been no build up. There's been like, we're just supposed to assume that these two people have been in love for 20 years, and I just wasn't getting that. And it's interesting because in this episode, when you see them kind of on opposite sides of things, I feel it more with them because you can feel how their opposing views is starting to tear them apart.

10:38 And I really felt it this time, so. But yeah, and the fact and the fact that she hadn't been, was it that she hadn't been answering her letters like she been sending letters or, or they they have been corresponding and Moraine just didn't tell her what Ishmael had done to her. Yeah, that that was the case. Because if you were if you were calling the last episode, she was writing letters trying to tell Suwan that she had been steal. And every time she wrote the letter, she balled it up and threw it out because she didn't she couldn't figure out how to tell her something like that. Like, like Suwan said, how, how did you keep something this, of this magnitude away from me? And, and you know, I guess, and in some ways I can understand Lorraine again, not wanting to admit that that part of her is gone. And then to admit it to like the most part, the, the, the, I don't know if she's the most powerful, but the, the person who's in charge of all the eyes to die. That's a hard thing to, to admit. And at the same time, this is the person that you love. This is something that you guys shared in common. And that kind of, I think takes away from maybe what she or I would say maybe she felt like that took away from what she shared with Swan, too.

12:00 And she was just like, yeah, I'm not ready to do that yet, but. I think she was still it, it was, it was still very painful for her and she she just didn't want to have to deal with it at the moment. Yeah, yeah. And now she's having to deal with it because like Mike said at the end of the last episode, Land comes into town with Alana and Ivan and Maxim, and you think it's going to be a showdown, but it's like, no, we're about to present you to the ambulance seat. And this is something obviously Moraine didn't want to happen. So when I say there's a lot of tension in this episode and a lot of it has to do with Moraine, because Moraine is trying to keep secrets from this person. She's still trying to push Land away, like get leave. I don't have anything to say to you. And Land is like, OK, whatever.

12:57 And I love it that he, I I feel bad for him because you can see how much her rejection still hurts him. But I love it that this time he was like, OK, I'm gonna get to the bottom of this because she is not acting like the meringue. I know. He was like, OK, so have you ever felt like killing yourself after all of this? And she was like, no, absolutely not. He's like, hmm, OK. And it's almost like all the things that he was doing, he was checking off boxes. OK. She doesn't feel this way. OK, Check. She doesn't feel this way. Check. Something's not right about what she's going through. And I love that he was able to figure it out. And like he said at the end, he was like, I'm so sorry it took me so long to, you know, to do what I'm supposed to do. Yeah, it was like I said, that version of House. It's like he's like trying to figure it out, like there it is. Do I do like that they gave him something to do? Because Land hadn't really had anything to do. He he felt like sulk.

14:01 Yeah. Exactly. All all he had to do was like say, Lorraine, talk to me, go away. Lorraine, talk to me. Go away. Thank you. And see. Right. You're a dark friend. No, I'm not. Ryan is the Dragon Reborn. Oh, OK. That that's it. That's all you got for us. Right. And I like his interaction at the beginning of this episode with Rand too, because it's like he knows that Rand is a Dragon Reborn now. And that kind of, I think that knowledge kind of changed his relationships with a few people, including with Moraine. But I like that he's not being judgy against Rand like everybody else, Like everybody else who's hearing that he's the Dragon Reborn, they automatically have an opinion formed about who or what he is and what he's going to do, including someone. So I like that Land is still treating him the same, like, OK, this is the kid we picked up in the Two Rivers. But OK, I see you've been trying to, you've been picking up some stuff.

15:05 And he just kind of calmly tells him, hey, this is what you want to do. This is what you want to do. You know, when he tried to get the sword and he wasn't trying to take the sword from him, he was just like, here, hand it here so you can put this jacket on. And Rand was like going into defensive ball. He was like, OK, you've been learning some skills, all right, you could take it with you. He was like, so you're not going to you. You don't think I need to keep. He was like, believe me, if the ambulance seat is scared of you is not going to be because of the sword. The the thing though, about about all of this is in the books. We have The Eye of the World, the first book, you know, on the way there, he and, and ran bonded like he was teaching him how he was teaching him the sword dances. He was teaching him, he was training him, he was talking to him.

16:02 And you know, it's I, I, I missed that part, you know, of, of this character. And actually, we're going to see it, you know? You know, Season 3 has already started. Yeah, I have seen. A couple of, a couple of. Clips and like. Photos. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. So, yeah, 'cause in the trailer you see him teaching him some of the dances there too. The other thing is aside from being the quote UN quote Dragon Reborn, aside from being that it, it puts Ran in a position where he's going to have to sort of be like a king.

16:44 And you understand that Lamb is a king and people make assumptions about him and treat him a certain way because of who he is and the way he represents. And I think he can kind of understand what Rand is about to have to deal with as someone who is supposed to be in the position of authority, who everyone is going to have to follow. And people are going to look up to him because he's the Dragon Reborn. Landon understands that, and that's sort of why he's taking. I think they're doing a good job of showing him trying to sort of take care of Rand in that respect. As.

17:25 Opposed to what we yes, except for what we're used to in the book where he was sort of a father figure to Rand since he didn't have Tammy. OK, yeah. But yeah, I was going to say he does say something to Rand about that because when when he tells Rand or when they're having that conversation, Iran was like, look, I left the eye of the world because I didn't want to endanger my friends. I didn't want to kill my friends. I wanted to keep my loved ones safe. And Rand had to tell him, you are the Dragon Reborn. Your whole purpose is to save the world, not just your friends, but everybody. And I think I, I don't know, maybe I feel like it coming from LAN, maybe he looked at it differently because it's not something that is.

18:17 When LAN says that, it doesn't feel like he's trying to force it on him, you know what I'm saying? I think it's kind of like what you said. He's just kind of gently teaching him without being overbearing, without being pushy, without being aggressive. But he's kind of telling Rand what is needed of him or what is required of him, but in a way where Ran can kind of take it in and and understand and feel the weight of it. Because again, we've been talking about Ran. Ran's been living a solitary life for six months, but even prior to that, they have been dealing with so much trauma and chaos and everything going on. He really hasn't had time to sit with who he is and what he is and understand what that means.

19:00 And I think LAN is a good person to kind of tell him and and show him the the path forward. Maybe Moraine too, especially now that we know a little bit more of Moraine's motivations and she's not keeping things from Rand like she was at the beginning. Because I think at this point, especially once Ram was like, yeah, Laugher said I can't hang with you or else she's going to kill you. I think at this point she realizes, OK, I have to, I'm I'm going to have to tell him the truth. Especially after Sawan handed her her ass. She was like, look, this boy is no in, in no better position to fight the Dark One than he was six months ago.

19:41 Like what have you been doing with him since the Eye of the World? Which is a valid question. Yeah, 'cause she's basically just had him kind of hidden away and, you know, working in the asylum. And I, I understand she put him in the path of people who could help him without directly saying, hey, we're here to help you. Because even the guy who he was caring for before he switched to low gain, that guy was helping. He was the one who taught him the forms. So yeah, I, I, I, I, I do like that dynamic between the two of them. I do want to see more of that because I think land will be a very big help to Rand especially. Trying to deal with all this, this chaos that's really about to appear in his life.

20:30 Right. Yeah. I I love, I love Sawan's incredulousness. Like, after, like he tried to power up. She was just like, like, this is all you got. Like, you like, you know how long it's been like, I got beginners that could wreck you. Like what the hell? She set him up. She she said. How many times have you chown? He's like. Not many. Not, not many, not not on, not purposeful. Oh, she said. Oh, I got you bro. Right, right. Because her whole thing was she said, what did she say? Do you know what the tower law says that the ambulance seat is supposed to do to the Dragon Reborn? And he was like, you're supposed to steal me.

21:11 And she was like, steal you. That's where amateurs. She was like, no, we're supposed to cage you. And I remembered you talking about that, Anthony. She said we're supposed to cage you and basically use you for our purposes. You channel when we want you to channel. You fight when we want you to fight. You know, when it when time comes for the last battle, you'll be our greatest weapon. But Oh no, you won't be the general. I know where I was looking like though. So they're basically no better than the other than other of you. Not, not when it comes to this. They're not any better. No, yeah.

21:51 Yeah, it's the same thing is. It really is. And and that's when Ran kind of attacked. He was like, oh, you're not about to put me in a cage. But yeah, Ran you, you got to work on your, your control and your channeling a little bit more than what you have been 'cause if you've been, he's been trying to hide it for the whole six months. So. Yeah, I like how that, see, is almost a direct parallel of Rena and Wayne too. It's like you tried to lash out and that shit got shut down. It's like he tried to lash out and that shit got shut down like in a fucking hurry. And you can you were basically powerless to do anything about. It is like a parallel between both situations.

22:34 I'm just like, see, this is like, you just don't know. And this show is like, you think you're rooting for the right person. Then you're like, am I you Like maybe, maybe that's room for them. Then you're like, no, I'm definitely not room for them. I need room for them. Am I rooting for anybody 'cause I'm just rooting for Loyal. I'm just gonna get a Loyal get a sweatshirt with Loyal's face on it. I mean like, yeah, loyal I. Am looking for the truth. He's the man. We know. I well, you know, the the name of this episode is Deus DeMar, which means the great game. And in from from the book, there's I told you before the the game of houses is what they do, which is their political machinations that go on, you know, behind the scenes and in front of the scenes.

23:31 That's something that I think they've sort of kind of hinted at in the show, but not really talked about, and it's where George RR Martin gets his Game of Thrones from Robert Jordan. They first game of houses Meringue is really, really good at playing the great game. He and Swan, especially Marine. They're playing a game like you know, you know how we have the same you know, we're playing chess, we're playing checkers. They're not even playing the same game as as. Everybody else, yeah. Right they.

24:11 Are really playing the long game? Yeah, yeah. Because everybody else is worried about what's going on right now. They've been thinking 20 years ahead forever. They have them or. Each other to figure out checklist, yeah. Yeah, so and, and I I think because they make a big deal about it in the books about the nobles playing the game. That one scene where Rand was with land fear at the party, he in the book, he literally burned a whole bunch of letters, like he just dropped them in the flame. He wouldn't even read them. And they they thought he was a noble, but they didn't know who he was when he left carrying it left the game in shambles.

24:58 Like people didn't know what the hell to do. They didn't know what was going on. He just totally and it's part of his Tavirian nature. Probably he did a little bit of that too, but he basically left all their politics and machinations in shambles because they had no idea what was going on. Like they didn't know who he was. He was with this beautiful woman. He seemed to be very powerful. They were all drawn to him and he didn't. He just like dismissed their things as if they were nothing and he just which in the grand scheme of things he's a Dragon Reborn so. So it really it is. Nothing, it is nothing. He doesn't have time for this game basically.

25:40 And he left. He left them like in shambles. It was. It was terrible. Right. OK, but yeah, so the thing, the reason why they call this the Great game is Moraine and Swan just playing. They're doing something no one is expecting, which is I'm, I'm kind of concerned here for Swan because it seemed like she's abandoning the plan because she thinks Marine has abandoned the plane. And Marine is like trying to tell her I haven't. But I don't know if they're putting on a show because people are eavesdropping and listening and all that stuff.

26:21 So I. See, I thought that too until the end of the episode and I was like, oh they really are on opposite sides. Like this was not. It was. I don't know. I don't know you, still you. Still, even with what happened at the end of the episode. 'Cause I think they, I don't think landfill was supposed to show up. Landfill. But even before landfill showed up, Swan commanded Moraine to stop, and that was when she did that. And you could kind of see Moraine being forced to turn around because I guess. Well, because of the oaths. Yeah, because of the oaths.

27:02 She's supposed to obey because she said I will obey every command Sawan Sanche or I will. I will obey Sawan Sanchez's every command. I think that's what she said with the oath, right? And when Sawan was telling her to close the way gate, she was like don't make me force you. And Maren looked panicked. She was like don't do this if you ever love me, don't do this. And she was like, I command you when it forced her to turn around. That hit me so hard because I was like, that's almost a worse violation to me from what Ishmael did to her.

27:44 Because Ishmael, it's her enemy. He's the one, you know, he doesn't care about her. He can take her power, whatever, and not think anything of it. This is somebody that you love who is forcing you to do something that you don't want to do basically without your consent. It was a violation. It was, but step back for a second. Step back for a second. OK, so how many people knew there was a old year way gate in the middle of the city? Yeah, only. Only a. Couple. They had to. They had to go find a map out of the library to find it. Yeah. Swan immediately went there like she knew where it was.

28:27 How? I was to see, I was going to say was did she go there because she knew it was there or did she go there because she was following Moraine? How could she have followed Moraine? She was on top of the rooftop when they left. How did she know where she was? Maybe. She maybe she, I mean it seemed like she knew that that was the only way they were getting out of here with with land fear like throwing become becoming a little fire starter like throwing, throwing fireballs all over the place. And this it's like they they knew that they couldn't go out the front. So she's like, they have to go out. No. But see, I don't think they. Knew they. Was even in the city. No.

29:07 And I don't even think they knew that the fire, because the fire was in the four gate. I don't think they knew that Forsaken was starting the fire. They just knew there was a fire. Yeah. OK. So now the people down in in, in the in the area who saw this. Beautiful. Woman with the long flowing robes walking. They probably realized, but. They they didn't. By the time they realized what was happening, they were made to a bacon crisp. If you're seeing her, it's too late. It's too late if you see her. Oh well. Who you going to tell? Nobody let. Look, let me let me go this. Way.

29:47 Let me, let me get out. Let me get out your way while you're setting everything on fire. And, and what did she say when she was walking by and blowing people up? She's like, like, oh. It was like 3. I'm back to this again. Yeah, she was like 3000 years of pass and I'm doing this again. Really. But but I have questions though because like I said, team one, they didn't know where the way it was. They had to use a map to find it and Swan just strolled in there like so. I'm thinking this is not the. Theory. The theory was not the theory. It it could be possible that landfill was was making her do that because the Forsaken can do something called compulsion which they can make people do things so. You think landfill made swan come? Right, because what did she say after she knocked her out? She said a broken Armaline is better than a dead. That is more used to me than a.

30:47 More useful to me than a dead 1. Or I mean if. She's and who would know, and Landry would know exactly where that way it was because she was there when they were made like she knows where they are. Yeah, but. Wouldn't the ambulance seat know almost everything in the tower? No. No, they're not in the tire. They ain't carrying. But yeah, they're in carrying. I mean, but. They're not in tire of. London. I would think she would have like some kind of like extended. OK, never mind. No. I. Mean she's not the president. She'll get a black book from the previous arm and then have all the secrets. OK, that's what I was saying. She's not going to be the one to go in and read every single text or tone that's in the White Tower. So yeah, that that kind of does.

31:32 In any, any reading that she would have done, they they would have been looking for prophecies. She was her. She would have been the one there trying to trying to to tweak out all the prophecies to figure out what they needed to do, what she needed to do. That's. Absolutely no. And even Even so, why would she know where secret passages are in Carrion when Moraine is from there and she didn't even know? She knew there was one there. They didn't know where it was. No, she told, She told, She told Alana, she said. That's just a myth. That's a rumor. Oh yeah, that's. Right. And Alana was like, no, we got a old gear and map this it, it's the real thing. Yeah, and who brought the map?

32:17 Yasuka Cho Chang. She brought it to who? To. Veron. How did Veron know to even ask her to go get one? See. See, oh, but you know what Bavarian is also, she's writing a book about the breaking of the world, and she's been doing a lot of research. And remember, she went to the White Tower looking for certain texts to research. So she may have once she and Lorraine talked and Lorraine, you know, she confirmed that Rand was the Dragon Reborn. Maybe she started thinking of, OK, let's look at certain things, let's look at certain places, especially if she know, if she knew that Moraine stashed Rand and Kyrie Ann, maybe she was like, OK, we might need to think of a alternate way out. Like Baron seems to me to be the one that has plans on top of plans on top of plans.

33:16 Like she sees. I I said this in a couple episodes ago. She's very observant. So she was probably paying attention to other things that some of the other sisters or anybody else like wasn't even on their radar. Yeah, OK. I'm, I'm, I'm just saying it might not be. They could have had advanced knowledge. But I know it just seemed like how I I'm still going to ask the question. Lamprey knew where they were. Swan knew where they were. Yeah. You know, it's easy to know that. Well Landfair would know. OK, well if they got to get out of the city quickly, they're probably going to go to away gate. So she may not have thought they didn't know where it was. She just automatically went there because she knows Marine has used it before, used used one before, so she may have just assumed she would be there.

34:10 Someone, on the other hand, why would she even know exactly where to go? Yeah. Well, I, I will say this, I don't think Landfair, I don't think she anticipated Moraine being there because one, as far as she knew, Moraine was still, she's not going to be able to open the weight Gate 2. She had told Ran that if, you know, if she caught him with Moraine, she would kill Moraine. And I don't think, you know, with Ran going to her for help in escaping, I don't think he told her. Oh yeah, by the way, Moraine is coming with me.

34:51 Did did Landfree help him escape? Yes. I. Started the because. I think she started the fire as the distractions. Oh, wait. Distraction for what? Wait, OK, see, now you got me think about that. Because she started the distraction. Moraine was in there with Ram, but then Varon came in. See, now you got me wondering, is Baron a dark friend or something 'cause Baron came in. She told Leanna. She was like, I'll take his shield from you so you can go do whatever the ambulance. Right. And then Maureen goes, Oh, you worried that very carefully, 'cause she didn't lie. She didn't. She just said I'll take his shield from you. But that doesn't mean she can't lie. She could have been doing that for show. See now.

35:42 Oh my God. OK, so now you. I'm sorry man, this very, this ain't adding up and you know. You know what? It's so interesting because. Oh, and then Matt gets knocked down by someone. Matt got knocked out by someone in the grey hood. Thomas was wearing a grey hood. I'm just, I'm, I'm just saying it. Was he was. And then when Alana, Maxim and Ivan was sitting there talking, Maxim looked at Baron. He was like, you know, I don't trust Baron. He was the only one that said and I was like, why trust Baron? But you know what and and why Ivan, Ivan was like, you know what, I'm from the go far, little Tomas. Right.

I was like, that outfit looks so good on you, but I can't like you because of what you see, who you are. Right.
