Ian's past comes back to haunt him as he runs into some of his former Mohawk family. Jamie's encounter with another Indian representative gives him pause as he re-evaluates his position in the upcoming conflict. Back on the Ridge, Claire shows Malva how to administer ether for surgery, using Lizzie and Keziah as test subjects. Ian tells Jamie the sad story of what happened during his time with the Mohawk. Claire and Jamie's passionate reunion is unknowingly witnessed by Malva.
